What Is Oasis Gold™ Moroccan Argan Oil?

Oasis Gold™ Moroccan Argan oil is an oil produced from the kernels of the exotic argan tree, endemic to Morocco, that is highly valued for its nutritive, cosmetic as well as numerous medicinal properties. There are two grades of Argan oil – cosmetic and culinary. The major difference between the two grades of Argan oil is that the food grade Argan oil is roasted before it is grinded to extract the oil so as to make it edible. The cosmetic Argan oil grade is cold-pressed from raw Argon seeds and not roasted so as to retain its high amounts of essential fatty acids and medicinal properties. The species Argania once covered North Africa and is now endangered and under protection of UNESCO. Argan oil remains one of the rarest oils in the world due the small and very specific growing areas.

Cold pressing is usually done in one of two ways 1) in a traditional manner (hand pressed oil) or 2) in a mechanical way (using cold oil presses). Most of the argan oil distributed in America for cosmetic use is mechanically pressed. Mechanically pressed oil is not only more cost effective but no water has to be added and the shelf life of the oil is up to 24 months instead of approximately 6-10 months. Cold pressing means that the oil is pressed at temperatures below 60 degree C. 100% cold pressed argan oil will be absorbed quickly in the skin without leaving a heavy greasy film. The color is usually deep yellow gold, but can change slightly with each harvest. The natural scent is nutty and should gradually disappear within about 15-20 minutes after application. If the nutty scent is not obvious, most likely the oil has been heated causing it to lose much of its valuable properties or other oils/scents may have been added. According to the National Geographic Green Guide, Argan Oil is defined as anti-aging, a deep moisturizer, anti-blemish, and anti-inflammatory.

*Responsibly wildcrafted - Refers to plants/herbs collected from their natural or indigenous habitat.  Although these plants/herbs are as natural as one can hope to obtain. The best practice is what is called Responsibly Wild Crafted.  These are usually harvested with minimal environmental impact and are often replanted with long-term sustainability in mind.

All Argan sold today is produced by a women's cooperative that shares the profits among the local women of the Berber tribe. The cooperative has established an ecosystem reforestation project so that the supply of Argan oil will not run out and the income that is currently supporting the women will not disappear. The money is providing healthcare and education to the local women, and supporting the entire community as a whole.

Oasis Gold™ Argan Oil - Frequently Asked Questions

What are the main components of Oasis Gold™ Argan Oil?

Argan oil contains the following components:

Essential Unsaturated Fatty Acids – Fatty are important for regulating and maintaining healthy skin. This chemical is essential to the body but the body alone cannot synthesize this element, thus requires another chemical to help the body do the work.

Natural Vitamin E – Vitamin E is a vital antioxidant and anti-inflammatory element that strengthens the capillary walls. It also acts as a barrier against cell ageing, promotes the nourishment of cells and prevents the evaporation of moisture from the epidermis in the skin keeping the skin moisturized. Vitamin E is also an important fat soluble vitamin.

Polyphenols – This is a natural plant component and are said to have anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, anti-aging and anti-oxidant properties.

Ferulic Acid – Effective to combat the damaging effects of ultraviolet radiation on the skin. This chemical is the most common Polyphenol component in Argan Oils.

Carotenoids – This natural fat-soluble element protects the skin from ultraviolet radiation and free radical reactivity which helps to maintain healthy skin. This element is also helps prevent Arthritis.

Sterols – They are the primary component of the outermost layer of human skin. Sterols assist in keeping the structural integrity of the cell membrane, reducing inflammation, improving skin metabolism processes and help retain moisture in the skin.

Why is Argan Oil known as nature’s anti-aging skin food?

Argan oil contains natural Vitamin E, plant Sterols and essential fatty acids which synergize to to enhance the skin’s overall health and improve its youthful appearance. Argan oil is also known to support the natural healing of the skin in some dermatological conditions.

How do the components of Argan Oil benefit the hair?

Argan Oil is rich in essential fatty acids and Omega 9 which are known to improve hair strength and health. Vitamin E can help revive the hair damaged by wind, sea and sun. The anti-oxidants present in the oil assist in repairing damaged cell membrane in the hair and plant Sterols keep the hair moisturized. Argan oil also combats frizziness, keeping the hair smooth and silky.

What antioxidants are present in Argan Oil?

  • Carotenoids
  • Polyphenols
  • Ferulic acid
  • Natural Vitamin E (one of the most important antioxidants that can break the chain reactions initiated by free radicals)

What is a free radical?

Free radicals are unstable molecules formed when cells burn oxygen. They react with cells causing cellular membrane, cellular protein, and DNA damage. This can lead to premature ageing, wrinkling, and disease (within the body).

What are antioxidants?

Antioxidants are molecules usually in the form of proteins, enzymes, vitamins, and metabolites. These molecules combine with free radicals and stabilize them, thus rendering the free radicals harmless.

How can Argan Oil soothe inflamed skin?

The presence of antioxidants in Argan Oil helps reduce free radical activity since all inflammatory responses involve free radical activity and any injury, infection, or allergic reaction to the skin elicits an inflammatory response. In addition, Sterols and Vitamin E also have soothing and healing properties. Vitamin E protects essential fatty acids from breaking down. Essential fatty acids are necessary for the production of prostaglandin, a lipid compound manufactured by enzymes within the cell that is a natural anti-inflammation and Sterols assist in keeping the structural integrity of the cell membrane, reducing inflammation, improving skin metabolism processes and help retain moisture in the skin.

What components of Argan Oil revive sun-damaged skin?

The basic components of Argan oil are important to revive sun-damaged skin. Essential fatty acids protect the cellular membrane and DNA from UV-induced damage. Carotenoids and Squalene can deactivate the free radical known as singlet oxygen. This free radical, when exposed to the sun’s radiation, becomes excited and therefore extremely destructive. Ferulic acid is unique because exposure to UV light actually increases its antioxidant potency. Vitamin E reduces tissue damage caused by UV light and increases the rate of healing.

How does Argan Oil help keep skin hydrated?

Argan Oil’s Vitamin E, Squalene and Sterols are important factors to restore and retain moisture in the skin. Vitamin E protects the integrity of the essential fatty acids and both Vitamin E and Squalene accumulate in the epidermis to keep the skin healthy.

Squalene is a nutrient rich oil with the unique ability to anchor itself to skin cell membranes and protects the skin against moisture loss. Sterols in Argan oil work synergistically with human Sterols to promote excellent moisture retention. Sterols also play fundamental roles in aiding and maintaining optimal skin barrier function.

Healthy barrier function is vital in maintaining proper levels of hydration. The loss of water from the skin through evaporation is increased when the skin’s barrier is disturbed by injury, environmental pollutants, UV radiation, and stress. The ability of the top layers of the skin to resist moisture loss depends on the presence of essential fatty acids. These are water binding elements and enhance the outer barrier of the skin to reduce transdermal water loss. They also help regulate sebum production.

Sebum is the skin’s own natural oil. Its main purpose is to make the skin waterproof and protect the skin from drying out.

How does Argan Oil help reduce the appearance of wrinkles?

Argan Oil’s antioxidants help prevent free radicals from damaging collagen and changes in elastin’s cellular anatomy. The youthful appearance of the skin is directly related to the health of collagen and elastin proteins. Collagen provides strength to the skin’s structure and elastin provides the snap, or resiliency.

Wrinkles seem to start in the dermis when there is a change in the elastin structure which causes the elastin to lose its snap. Essential fatty acids which are present in Argan oil maintain optimal levels of hydration and healthy function of the dermis where collagen and elastin reside. Additionally, Argan Oil contains high molecular weight proteins that, when applied to the skin, construct a network of molecules which are known to provide an instant tightening effect to the skin.

How can Argan Oil assist in reducing the appearance of stretch marks?

Stretch marks occur when the dermal collagen and elastin in your skin stretch beyond capacity and the fibers separate. Argan Oil’s antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents, such as essential fatty acids, Vitamin E, and Sterols help to keep the skin cells remain connected during rapid periods of growth thus reducing the risk of having stretch marks.

Why can the skin thoroughly absorb Argan Oil?

Argan Oil is easily absorbed by the skin because of its unique component elements. Squalene can penetrate deeper and more readily than other oils because of its compatibility with the skin’s own natural oils. Human sebum, the skin’s own natural oil, is comprised of 25% Squalene. The Sterols found in Argan Oil penetrate rapidly because their structure is very similar to the human Sterols that are the main component of the outermost layer of the skin. Essential fatty acids are the building blocks of the skin cell membranes. Therefore, it can be metabolized and directly assimilated into the skin.

Does Argan Oil clog pores?

No, Argan Oil does not clog pores because of its ability to be thoroughly absorbed and assimilated into the skin.

What components of Argan Oil are known for their antiseptic properties?

Argan Oil’s Polyphenols are known for their antiseptic properties and Squalene is known as a natural bactericide. Antiseptics are antimicrobial substances applied to living tissue to help reduce the possibility of infection.

How long does Argan Oil last?

The same antioxidant properties which protect the skin also protect the Argan Oil from oxidizing. These active properties allow Argan Oil to maintain its integrity for up to 2 years, so long as the bottle is kept away from direct sunlight, high temperature and the lid is kept tightly closed.
