Aromatherapy and Children

Aromatherapy and Children

Children can certainly use essential oils but care must be practiced, although there are many safe ones. Use one-third to one-half the adult dose, or a 1-percent dilution (five or six drops of essential oil per ounce of carrier oil), and don’t forget that citruses may irritate the skin. Recipes are given for tummy oil and a dilly pillow for children to use at night.

Aromatherapy for the Respiratory System

Concerns of the respiratory system include irritation and infection of the ears, nose and throat. Respiratory problems usually involve congestion, which can be decreased effectively by inhaling rosemary (especially the verbenone type), hyssop (use var. decumbens only), tea tree, eucalyptus, lavender or peppermint. Using aromatherapy for colds, congestion, throat irritation and ear infections provide a safe alternative for symptom relief and healing.

Aromatherapy for Problems of the Ears and Eyes

Essential oils like lavender and tea tree can be diluted in olive oil and rubbed around the outside of, but never in, the ear and over the lymph nodes on the side of the neck. If the ear concern is caused by throat infection, it is always wise to use an antiseptic gargle.

Aromatherapy for the Urinary Tract

The urinary system, consisting of the kidneys and bladder, regulates the body’s water content and salt balance, eliminates waste and is involved in regulating blood pressure. The kidneys determine exactly what will be eliminated and what will be recycled. This article also discusses kidney stones and bladder infections along with effective natural remedies.
