ASPARTAME, MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS AND LUPUS
Dear Doctor Rivner and Group:
I have spent several days lecturing at the World Environmental Conference on aspartame marketed as NutraSweet, Equal & Spoonful. In the keynote address by the EPA they announced that there was an epidemic of multiple sclerosis and systemic lupus, and they did not understand what toxin was causing this to be rampant across the nation.
I explained that I was there to lecture on exactly that subject. That the wood alcohol in aspartame converts to formaldehyde and then formic acid,( ant sting poison) and causes metabolic acidosis. That methanol toxicity mimics multiple sclerosis and that people were being diagnosed with it in error. That multiple sclerosis was not a death sentence but that methanol toxicity is.
In the case of systemic lupus we are finding that it has become almost as rampant, especially with Diet Coke drinkers or Diet Pepsi drinkers, also with methanol toxicity the victims usually drink three or four of them a day.
In the case of systemic lupus which is triggered by aspartame, the victim usually does not know that is the culprit and continues its use aggravating it to such a degree that sometimes it is life threatening. When we get people off aspartame those with systemic lupus usually become asymptomatic but we can’t reverse the disease.
On the other hand, in the case of those diagnosed with MS when in reality its methanol toxicity most of the time all symptoms disappear. We’ve seen cases where their vision has returned and even their hearing has returned. It causes a good deal also of tinnitus.
During a lecture I said: "If you’re using NutraSweet (Equal, aspartame, Spoonful, etc.) and you have Fibromyalgia symptoms, spasms, shooting pains, numbness in your legs, cramps, vertigo, dizziness, headaches, tinnitus, joint pain, depression, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, blurred vision, or memory loss — you have aspartame disease!" People were jumping up in the lecture saying: "I’ve got it, I’ve got it – is it reversible!" It is rampant.
Some of the speakers even were suffering from these symptoms. In one lecture attended by the Ambassador of Uganda, he told me the sugar industry is adding aspartame! We heard about that. He even said the man’s son could no longer walk – probably using the product!
We have a major, major problem. Even a stranger came up to Dr. Espisto and myself at the airport when we were giving out information and said: "Could you tell me why everyone is coming down with MS?"
A hospice nurse said she had 6 friends who were Diet Coke addicts and they had all been diagnosed with MS. This is beyond coincidence!
Here is the problem! There were congressional hearings when it was in 100 products and then a few hundred products. There have been three but the drug/chemical company has deep pockets. Nothing was done. People at that time were already going blind because the methanol converts to formaldehyde in the retina of the eye. NOW ITS IN 5000 PRODUCTS AND THE PATENT HAS EXPIRED! It’s in antibiotics, vitamins, baked goods and all kinds of products. Dr. H. J. Roberts, world expert on the subject, said its hard to avoid.
When you think of NutraSweet remember it is not a food additive but a deadly drug. Put it in the class with cyanide and arsenic – POISONS! It just takes longer to kill you but it is killing people and causing all kinds of neurological problems. It changes the brain chemistry, it is the reason for the rampant seizures, it changes the dopamine level in the brain so you can imagine what it would do to a Parkinson patient, and it causes birth defects.
There is no reason to take this product for any reason. It is NOT A DIET PRODUCT!!!! The Congressional Record said it makes you crave carbohydrates and get fat! Dr. Roberts said when he got patients off of it the average weight loss was 19 lbs. The formaldehyde stores in fat cells, particularly on the hips and thighs!!!!!
It is deadly for a diabetic. Any physician knows what wood alcohol will do to a diabetic. We find that physicians think they have diabetic retinopathy when they are going blind. It keeps their blood sugar out of control, many going into comas. Many have died!!!! People were telling me at the conference they had relatives that had switched from saccharin to NutraSweet and how they had gone into comas, the doctors couldn’t figure out why they couldn’t keep their sugar under control, and eventually they had died – and they had lost their memory in the end.
Memory loss is due to the fact that the aspartic acid and phenylalanine are neurotoxic without the other amino acids in protein and goes past the blood brain barrier and deteriorates the neurons of the brain. Dr. Russell Blaylock, Neurosurgeon, said the ingredients stimulates the neurons of the brain to death causing brain damage of varying degrees. He’s written a book about it called EXCITOTOXINS; THE TASTE THAT KILLS (Health Press – 1 800 -643-2665). Dr. H. J. Roberts, diabetic specialist and world expert has just written DEFENSE AGAINST ALZHEIMERS DISEASE ( 1 800 -814-9800) and tells how this is escalating Alzheimer’s Disease. And indeed it is, as the same hospice nurse told me 30 year old women are being admitted with Alzheimer’s.
I will ask Dr. Roberts and Dr. Blaylock since they are top experts and understand how methanol toxicity mimics multiple sclerosis to write a position paper and MISSION POSSIBLE will add some case histories or they will, and we will post it and put it on this network. According to the Conference we’re talking about a plague of neurological diseases caused by this deadly poison.
Dr. Roberts realized what was happening when aspartame was first marketed because he said his diabetic patients presented with memory loss and confusion and severe vision loss. At the Conference of the American College of Physicians, doctors admitted they didn’t know. They wondered why seizures were rampant (the phenylalanine in aspartame breaks down the seizure threshold and depletes serotonin which causes manic depression, panic attacks, rage and violence).
Just before i left for the conference I got a fax from Norway asking for a antidote because they are having so many problems in their countries. This poison is now in 90+ countries of the world!
Fortunately, we had speakers and ambassadors at the Conference from different nations who are going help. We ask that you help too. Print this out and warn everyone you know. Take anything with this product back to the store. Take the "No Aspartame Test" and send us your case history.
I assure you that Monsanto knows how deadly this is. They fund the American Diabetic Association, American Dietetic Assn., Congress, etc. The New York Times on November 15 ran an article on how the American Dietetic Assn. takes money from the food industry to endorse their products and, therefore, cannot criticize any additive – and told about their link to Monsanto. How bad is this? We told a mother who had a child on NutraSweet having a grand mal seizure everyday to get off the product. She called her physician who called the ADA who told the doctor not to take the baby off NutraSweet. We’re still trying to convince the mother this is causing the seizures. Every time we get someone off of aspartame the seizures stop! If the baby dies you know whose fault it is, and what we’re up against!
There are 92 documented symptoms on aspartame from coma to death – the majority of them are all neurological because aspartame destroys the nervous system!
This is a warning: OUTBREAK; ASPARTAME DISEASE! This is probably what is behind 6000 deaths from Desert Storm. The burning tongue discussed on 60 Minutes is the methanol breaking down. Aspartame liberates methanol in the can at 86 degrees. Diet drinks sat in the 120 degree Arabian sun for 8 weeks at a time on pallets and the servicemen drank them all day long. All their symptoms are identical to aspartame disease. Dr. Roberts says that a man consuming aspartame at the time of conception can cause birth defects in his child – as well as the mother using it. The phenylalanine concentrates in the placenta causing mental retardation according to Dr. Louis Elsas (Pediatric Professor – genetics) at Emory University in his testimony before Congress which we have on email!
In the original lab tests animals developed brain tumors (phenylalanine breaks down into DKP, a brain tumor agent). When Dr. Espisto was lecturing on aspartame one physician in the audience, evidently a neurosurgeon, said when they remove brain tumors they have aspartame in them!
Stevia, a sweet food, not an additive, that helps in the metabolism of sugar which would be ideal for diabetics, has now been approved as a dietary supplement — after years of having it outlawed by the FDA, obviously because of their loyalty to Monsanto. We have a resource list for diabetics with safe sweeteners.
If it says sugar free – don’t even think about it!!!!
I do have the 92 documented symptoms from the FDA on email, case histories on people diagnosed with MS that reversed and other material. However, I’ve been out-of-town until last night and I’m swamped with hundreds of requests. If you want more information it may take awhile for me to get it to you. But in the meantime – as Dr. Whitaker says – get it out of the house – children may live there!
A bill was written by Senator Howard Metzenbaum that would have warned all infants, pregnant mothers and children off aspartame – and instituted INDEPENDENT studies on the problems existing in the population -seizures, change in brain chemistry, change in neurological and behavioral symptoms. It was killed by the power of the drug/chemical company, letting loose the hounds of disease and death on an unsuspecting public!
Since the conference we probably will have some help from world leaders. Help us too – there are a lot of people on this planet that have to be warned — and we have to get to all neurologists and neurosurgeons.

Dear List members: Dr. Rivner is right. The opinions I have expressed are not only not generally accepted by the mainstream medical community, they don’t even know about it! Dr. H. J. Roberts, world expert on aspartame, and I attended the Conference of the American College of Physicians in March at the World Congress Center here in Atlanta, and they admitted they didn’t know. In Endocrinology, Dr. Jonathan B. Jaspan, Chief, Diabetes Program, Director, Endocrine Fellowship Training Program at Tulane, mentioned no diabetic should use alcohol and how hazardous it was. When he found out NutraSweet contained wood alcohol he was shocked as were other physicians in the workshop. One said: "How could the ADA do this to us?" Very easy, funded by Monsanto. Dr. Jaspan, I might point out, is one of the leading endocrinologists in this country and most eradite speaker I’ve ever heard. He is very opened minded and requested scientific studies, independent, and other material to peruse. He wrote me back on April 20, 1995 and said: "I am certainly chastened by what you have told me and I think it is vital to inform the consumer public of the potential danger.."
Dr. Rivner talks about most products being extensively tested, usually they are suppose to be, but in the case of aspartame its a comedy. The late Dr. Adrian Gross, Senior FDA toxicologist, told Congress that aspartame violated the Delaney Amendment because it caused brain cancer (and other cancers) in animals. His last works will ever be remembered: "And if the FDA violates its own laws who is left to protect the people?" This is why there is a MISSION POSSIBLE – to give you this warning.
To understand the testing of aspartame I will type in the sheet on testing handed out at the World Environmental Conference which contains the remarks of Dr. Adrian Gross to Senator Howard Metzenbaum who had written a bill that would have warned the world to keep this from pregnant women, infants and children and do INDEPENDENT studies on the problems in the population that were being reported from this poison. They were listed in the bill as: (1) Effect of aspartame on brain chemistry, (2) Effects on pregnant women and fetuses, (3) Behavioral and neurological effects, (4) Interaction with drugs – particularly changing the dopamine level and (5) seizures. This was bill S1557, 8/1/85. Here is the sheet on the testing that will explain everything:

Hitler was right, tell a monstrous lie often enough and it becomes the truth. NutraSweet is called "The most thoroughly tested substance in history". Tested by comedians according to the late Dr. Adrian Gross, FDA Toxicologist in a letter to Senator Howard Metzenbaum:
"The views of the FDA’s Center for Food Safety read like a script written for Abbott & Costello in the sense of their having perceptions inside-out and upside-down … 329 fetuses were examined in 2 days by a single person (a clear impossibility)."
"We have uncovered serious deficiencies in Searle’s operation and practices which undermined the basis for reliance on Searle’s integrity… Searle has not submitted all the facts or experiments to FDA, retaining unto itself the unpermitted option of filtering, interpreting and not submitting information … an attitude of disregard for FDA’s mission of protection of the public health … conduct which compromises the scientific integrity of the studies." 14 test blunders are listed, including:
Substitution of animals (hiding deaths)
Using sick animals on drugs unreported)
Incomplete examination, unreported tumors
Missing batch records
Mixing food so rats in the test could avoid the product
Destroying rats before they could be fully analyzed."
The full frequency of brain tumors was not disclosed by Searle to the FDA. In l976 FDA Commissioner Dr. Alexander Schmidt publicly stated that FDA could not rely on Searle’s studies. But the sloppy, incomplete, doctored and fraudulent "tests," with a little help from some friends, put NutraSweet on the market for $2 Billion/year. Dr. Gross continued:
"It seems bizarre that essentially the same set of studies could provide a foundation for a decision that … demonstrated the safety of aspartame… Although the General Accounting Office expresses the view that FDA followed its required process, I sharply disagree … although FDA may have gone through the motions such a "process" or dance represented no more than a farce and a mockery."
At the expense of our safety a system now exists where FDA works for industry, not the American People. In l981 NutraSweet was approved when Dr. Arthur Hull Hayes, FDA head, overruled his own board of inquiry to do so. Then he went to work for Searle’s public relations firm! Federal prosecutor Sam Skinner who was assigned to prosecute Searle for fraud quit the case to go to work for their lawyers. Later Monsanto bought Searle/NutraSweet and let slip the hounds of disease and devastation upon an innocent unwarned American population.

I would like to address a couple of other remarks by Dr. Rivner because he would have no way of knowing how much research has been done in this issue.
As to testing, Searle knew this product was deadly before they ever marketed it. In a memorandum from Herbert Helling titled CONFIDENTIAL TRADE SECRET INFORMATION, Food and Drug Sweetener Strategy, 12/18/70, he disclosed the strategy would be sychomanipulation, getting them to say yes, whatever they had to do. In his concluding paragraph he said:.."We have no way of estimating maximum likely abuse and hence need to utilize data based on almost complete conversion to DKP. If we include this .. we stand a good chance of ending up with nothing.."
So obviously they didn’t include it. The part of the Congressional Record that deals with the National Soft Drink Assn. protest says they didn’t test for breakdown products. They tested alright, but didn’t record them because they are a witches brew. DKP, a brain tumor agent, is a breakdown product of phenylalanine. Now physicians are saying they are finding brain tumors madeup of aspartame! One commented at a lecture of their findings. The wood alcohol, a severe metabolic poison, breaks down first into formaldehyde and then formic acid, ant sting poison. Only a couple of weeks ago a research scientist said some undertakers said how unusual it is that bodies are so well preserved, they have to use very little formaldehyde!
Next, about toxicity from large quantities. I was talking to someone from the White House about the Air Force closing down for 48 hours due to unexplained accidents. I showed him a paragraph from Flying Safety, their journal they published immediately following, warning all pilots off NutraSweet. Notice how much aspartame is needed to suffer reaction.
FLYING SAFETY, May, 1992:
"In pregnancy the effects of aspartame can be passed directly on to the fetus, even in very small doses. Some people have suffered aspartame related disorders with doses as small as that carried in a single stick of chewing gum. This could mean a pilot who drinks diet sodas is more susceptible to flicker vertigo, or to flicker-induced epileptic activity. It also means that all pilots are potential victims of sudden memory loss, dizziness during instrument flight and gradual loss of vision."
Also, keep in mind when there were Congressional Hearings (3 times) aspartame was only in 100 products and then several hundred. Today its in 5000 products and climbing, and the patent has expired! Shannon Roth went blind when aspartame was in 100 products. Now wherever you go people are losing their vision from this poison. Remember that FDA does NO TESTING! They rely on the manufacturer. All studies that approved aspartame were funded by Searle. When Dr. Ralph Walton did a study NutraSweet refused to sell him the aspartame because it was an independent study. He had to purchase analytically certified USP grade aspartame from a distributor. The frequency and severity of psychiatric, neurologic, eye and other side effects caused the institutional Review Board to terminate the project. The patients were bleeding from the eyes! Methanol converts to formaldehyde in the retina of the eye.
Be glad we did the research for you because most people do generally accept if its FDA approved its safe. Maybe in some cases it is but not always. Only three hours ago in District Court in New York, Robert Cohen filed a suit against the FDA regarding the bovine growth hormone Monsanto (same company) manufactured. They didn’t tell you incidentally that the lab animals got leukemia and cancer, and that the insulin growth factor (IGF) the regulator of cancer is tremendously increased. Nice to have someone work on the project at Monsanto and then go to work for the FDA to get it approved! So if NutraSweet gives you cancer, the increased IGF will make sure its clinically significant! Robert Cohen is the man who filed the original petition to revoke the use of rBGH with all the evidence needed by science. The FDA just disregarded it.
James Bowen, M.D. told the FDA: "In my opinion this has resulted in the mass poisoning of the American public as well as seventy-plus countries in the rest of the world. (now 90). Watching FDA officials walk through the "revolving door" and be further rewarded by being promoted to other positions of high public responsibility is clear evidence of a government out of control. …Every known metabolite of aspartame is of marked or questionable toxicity and patently unsafe for human use. Methyl alcohol is metabolized to nascent formaldehyde in the eye, nervous system and other metabolically active organs. It immediately attacks and denatures the tissue structure proteins in which it is metabolized to nascent formaldehyde. Simple logic tells one that it will vastly increase the metabolism of methyl alcohol to formaldehyde in the desinosomes of the periventricular cells of the central nervous system, thus focusing the nascent formaldehyde attack there. This corresponds well with the symptomalogies often experienced such as Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS), bulbar palsies, neurohormonal disorders, etc. Also visual disturbances, heart palpitations, infertility and fetal loss may be traced to aspartame ingestion. The diketopiperazine issue (remember the DKP!) issue remains totally unresolved and dangerous. .. There is the issue of the approval of aspartame for market, which has violated every principle of responsible science and responsible government."..
Believe, Dr. Bowen, he almost lost his life to NutraSweet! And now its escalating Alzheimer’s and is implicated in the Desert Storm Syndrome!
And one last thing about the medical community – read the Nov 15 article by Marian Burros in the New York about the American Dietetic Assn. explaining they are funded by food industry money and cannot criticize an additive. Further they discussed their link to Monsanto and how they were paid to endorse the bovine growth hormone. The ADA themselves admitted that NutraSweet writes their material in another article! The only thing missing on the ADA’s stationery is the Monsanto address.
We have Dr. Roberts peer reviewed medical text on aspartame and brain cancer by email.
Also, remember that Mission Possible is a volunteer force in 50 states sounding a worldwide alarm and flying packets to Air Traffic Control around the world to warn pilots because of the seizures. Since we pay our own expenses (and I can tell you it costs us thousands and thousands) we have no motive but to save your life. All you have to do is check it out.

And at the Conference of the American College of Physicians neurologists said: "Where are these rampant seizures coming from. Can anyone tell us!"
